The ACEEE 2026 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings recently wrapped, and Cascade Energy was there with two featured presentations by our resident energy experts. Our focus at this year’s event highlighted how industrial-scale building efficiency and SEM methods can be successfully applied to commercial settings.
Product Director Jinsy Oommen took audiences through her white paper covering SEM work with Energy Trust of Oregon in a presentation titled From Distributed Spreadsheets to One Platform: Digitizing SEM Delivery While Maintaining Performance and Participant Experience. Oomen’s paper details how moving to a centralized SEM digital infrastructure via our Gazebo data platform helped Energy Trust of Oregon consolidate reporting and energy monitoring across a portfolio of 700+ industrial and commercial sites and demonstrates how industrial SEM methods confer equal savings for commercial facilities. Director of Strategy and Products Zach Podell-Eberhardt shared an update on his continuing large-scale SEM data analysis efforts in a presentation titled Impact Analysis of 20,000 SEM Measures. Drawing upon Cascade’s rich dataset of commercial and industrial SEM program results, Zach’s work lends a unique perspective on the long-term effects of highly engaged energy coaching and SEM across all industries and facility types (hint: lots of ROI). Cascade’s sustainability team, Fresh Coast Climate Solutions, also shared the stage, tackling the hot topic of data centers with their session The Rapidly Evolving Data Center Industry: Emerging Trends, Insights, and Practices, led by FC Director Josh Brugeman. Using incentive research compiled with ComEd, legislation tracking in collaboration with Joyce Foundation, and their regional data center consortium, Great Lakes Bridged, Josh’s team provided an expert eye on how sustainability practices are shaping the future of the grid.
