Cascade recently partnered with InTech Energy , EPRI, and Sysco to win new work designed to help the California Energy Commission (CEC) increase adoption of energy-efficiency solutions for existing buildings. The program encompasses researching and developing energy optimization strategies and then testing the strategies in multiple building types (including schools, non-profits, warehouses, and office buildings) to show effectiveness. Cascade’s role will focus on helping Sysco’s refrigerated warehouse and office facility in Ventura, California, implement energy management solutions, including strategic energy management (SEM), systems tuning, and targeted capital upgrades.
Sysco, the world’s largest broadline food distributor, partnered with Cascade in 2004 to develop its corporate energy management program, and Cascade has managed the program ever since. This new Cascade-Sysco collaboration is an intensive, one-on-one effort with Sysco’s Ventura warehouse, and includes conducting building audits, developing and implementing a comprehensive SEM program, identifying and implementing select energy-efficiency projects, and conducting measurement and verification to demonstrate energy savings.
Cascade and Sysco believe this project provides a great opportunity to identify and reduce both warehouse and office energy use, and enables the company to apply learnings from this initiative to its 17 refrigerated warehouses/office spaces within California. Further, through the CEC, these learnings have the potential to also impact hundreds of other high-energy consuming warehouse spaces located across California.
Cascade is pleased to support the CEC with its goal to double the efficiency of existing buildings in California by 2030. This project is expected to start in mid-2018 and run through the end of 2021.
