Sam Skidmore

Director of West Programs

Sam Skidmore joined Cascade right out of college in 2007. He had the good fortune of spending his second week on the job learning industrial refrigeration at a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream plant – with an open invitation to the Half Baked laden chest freezer down the hall. With this dream trifecta discovered (thermodynamics, saving energy, and ice cream), he’s never looked back. And although he has been able to contribute to hundreds of projects ranging from wastewater to wood products to plastic widgets, his favorite place to save energy is still any refrigeration system he can find (no ice cream required).

In his current role he manages a growing team of engineers and operations staff from Seattle to San Diego. He combines technical knowledge from years as an industrial energy efficiency engineer with broad experience managing programs and growing Cascade’s relationships with electric and gas utilities across the Pacific Northwest and California. Some favorite aspects of the job include mentoring newer staff, working to make energy efficiency easy, and building relationships with utility staff and industrial end users to solve more problems than just high energy bills.

Personal Facts

Sam grew up in California but has found home on the mossy trails and snowy slopes of Washington state. As a result, he’s been known to show up to the office with snowboard or mountain biking inflicted injuries on more than one occasion. As he’s wizened up, his favorite times outside are spent at a safer pace with his wife and three young children.
