Professional engineers Marcus Wilcox and Rob Morton, with partner Mike McDevitt, got a loan from US Bank, some desks from Tektronix, and state-of-the-art computers (66 Mhx 486s) to form their own consulting business: Cascade Energy Engineering, Inc.
The company performed energy audits for local utilities, PacifiCorp and Portland General Electric, for its first contracts. Cascade was profitable that year, and has been every year since.
Time to Grow
We hired our first employee engineer—Dan Brown—after receiving a large research grant from Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. We haven’t stopped growing since.
Cascade performed its first national-scale tune-up on several facilities for a leading grocer.
Our First National Energy Management Program
As part of an agreement with mega food distributor Sysco, we developed our first multi-pronged energy management program.
Regional DSM Programs
Bonneville Power Administration awarded Cascade’s team the contract to design and manage Energy Smart Industrial, an award-winning demand-side management program that stretches across four Western states.
Introducing Cascade Energy…
With a full complement of innovative services including energy monitoring, small industrial tools, and training programs serving both corporate and utility customers, we shortened our name to Cascade Energy.
We saw a market need to help our customers better visualize energy use and manage energy efficiency programs, so we built and launched Sensei.
One of Oregon’s Best
Cascade Energy was rated one of the top mid-sized companies to work for in the state of Oregon in 2013 and 2015 by Oregon Business magazine.
